Who Needs to Surrender Their Indian Passport?

Hi, I am an Indian citizen, and I was considering moving to the US to acquire citizenship there. So, can someone tell me the consequences or penalties that I might have to face if I don't renounce my Indian citizenship or my Indian passport?

Anyone who has acquired citizenship of another country must surrender their Indian passport, as it is mandatory. The government of India doesn't permit an Indian citizen to hold dual citizenship, and the Indian Passport Act doesn't allow a foreign citizen to hold an Indian passport.
