Not mentioning your surname in the passport is not an issue, even though it does impact getting visas for many nations. Additionally, it does not create any issues when traveling to Europe. Although it can be challenging in some situations, such as when applying locally for something in those countries, you can use FNU or a three-part name. There are very few cases where you will be turned away for not using your surname. Annually, millions of people go overseas without a surname.

I do not have a surname on my passport, and when I applied for it, I did not encounter any issues. You need to convince the Passport Authorities that you are okay without using your surname in the passport. For 12 years, I have been using my passport, which I have also renewed outside India, and I have traveled to several countries. The only use I have is during flight booking, as you need to read the instructions on names, as every flight has different naming requirements.

Yes, you can get a passport with a single name without a surname. While filling the application form, leave the Surname column blank and mention your name in the Applicant's given name column. However, it is generally advised not to leave the surname column blank, especially if you plan to visit Europe in the future. The USA Embassy requires a surname while issuing a visa. So, if you have a family name mentioned as a surname, or if your name has two parts, such as BB or AB, then write the second part of the name, "AB", as your surname.

It generally depends on the passport authorities of the country where you are applying for a passport. In India, it is not mandatory to have a surname on your passport. The only thing you need to do is to make the immigration officials understand that you do not require your surname on the passport.
