PAN stands for Permanent Account Number. It is a ten-digit alphanumeric number that is issued by the Income Tax Department of India in the form of a laminated tamper-proof card. A PAN card is unique to every individual or entity and is valid throughout India.

    A PAN card (Permanent Account Number) is a 10-digit alphanumeric number that the NSDL and UTITSL issue. A PAN card is the only way through which the Income Tax Department can track the income and the person who is paying the tax. PAN number is unique to every PAN cardholder. It can also serve as an identity proof. Once a PAN card is issued, it will stay valid for the entire lifespan of the holder. It is required for most financial transactions and can also be issued for a minor below the age of five years.
