I’m traveling from the USA to India next month and recently completed my e-Arrival Card online. After submitting the form, I received a confirmation with a QR code, and now I’m wondering how important it is during the actual travel process.
I’ll be flying from Chicago to Delhi via a connecting flight in Europe. I have a valid OCI card and US passport, and this will be my first trip to India since hearing about the e-Arrival Card requirement.
I’ve seen mixed reports online. Some travelers say airline staff checked the QR code before issuing their boarding pass, while others claim nobody asked for it at any point during the journey.
For those who have recently traveled from the USA to India:
I understand procedures may vary by airline and airport, but I’d love to hear some recent experiences. I’d rather be overprepared than discover I’m missing something at the check-in counter.
My experience was a little different. I flew from Dallas to Bengaluru through Frankfurt.
The airline representative never asked for the QR code at check-in, and I wasn't required to show it during boarding either. However, I had it ready because several people in online travel groups recommended carrying it.
I only kept the confirmation email and a screenshot on my phone. That was sufficient for my trip.
One thing I've learned is that procedures can vary significantly depending on the airline and departure airport.
I traveled from San Francisco to Mumbai in May 2026 with an OCI card and US passport.
At the airline counter, the agent asked whether I had completed the required arrival form. I showed the QR code on my phone, and they briefly looked at it before continuing the check-in process. Nobody actually scanned it in my case.
When I arrived in Mumbai, immigration didn't ask me to show it again. It may have already been available in their system.
I still kept a PDF copy saved offline in case I lost internet access during the trip.

I traveled from New York (JFK) to Delhi recently.
The check-in agent specifically asked if I had completed the e-Arrival Card and requested the QR code confirmation. They did not scan it but wanted to see proof that the submission had been completed.
A few passengers nearby were searching through their emails at the counter because they hadn't saved the confirmation.
Since then, I always keep:
It takes very little effort and provides peace of mind.
