Multiple Accounts Created in e-OCI Portal by Mistake

I'm hoping someone here has dealt with this before. While trying to register on the e-OCI portal, I accidentally ended up creating multiple accounts using different email addresses because I thought my first registration hadn't gone through.

I'm applying for a new OCI card from Chicago, USA, after becoming a U.S. citizen. I started my application on July 22, 2026, but I wasn't receiving the OTP emails consistently. After several unsuccessful attempts, I assumed the account hadn't been created, so I registered again with another email address. Later, I discovered that both accounts had been successfully created.

One account has a partially completed OCI application, while the other only contains my registration details. I haven't submitted either application or paid any applicable fees yet because I don't want to create confusion or accidentally submit duplicate applications.

Has anyone accidentally created multiple accounts in the e-OCI portal? Did you simply continue with one account and ignore the other, or did you need to contact the helpdesk before proceeding?

I'm concerned that having two accounts with the same passport details and personal information could delay my OCI application. I know every case can be different, so I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced this recently.

I experienced this while applying from Sydney, Australia. The portal was having OTP delays, and I accidentally registered twice using two different email addresses.

I was worried because both accounts were linked to my passport information, but since I hadn't submitted the second application, I decided to continue with the first one. Everything went through without any problems.

One thing I'd recommend is keeping a note of which email address is associated with the application you're actually using. Later in the process, you'll receive updates related to that account, and it's much easier if all your communication is in one place.

I applied from Dublin, Ireland, and also ended up with two registrations after the portal timed out during account creation.

Before continuing, I contacted the support channel listed on the OCI portal. They advised me to continue using the account that already contained my saved application and not to submit another application from the second account.

My application was processed normally after that. I think the important part was avoiding duplicate submissions rather than having two unused accounts.

Requirements and system behavior may change, so if you're unsure which account to keep using, it may be worth confirming with the relevant support team before proceeding.

Something similar happened to me in California earlier this year. I created a second account because I thought the first registration had failed when the OTP didn't arrive.

Once I found the original confirmation email, I logged into the first account and completed my application there. I never used the second account again, and I didn't experience any delays because of it.

Since I hadn't submitted duplicate applications, there didn't seem to be any issue. I just kept all my documents and correspondence linked to the account I actually used. Based on my experience, it's probably better to avoid switching between accounts once you've started filling out the application.
