I'm an American citizen of Indian origin and recently renewed my U.S. passport. After receiving the new passport, I completed the required OCI update process because my old passport had expired. A few weeks later, I decided to generate my e-OCI through the OCI Services Portal.
The issue is that the e-OCI dashboard still displays my previous passport number instead of the new one. My OCI Miscellaneous Services application was marked as completed, so I assumed the updated passport information would automatically appear in the e-OCI system.
I've tried logging in from different devices and browsers, but the passport details haven't changed. My physical OCI card is linked to my new passport based on the documents I received, so I'm confused about why the digital record still seems outdated.
Has anyone experienced a delay between the approval of an OCI passport update and the e-OCI portal reflecting the new passport details? Did the information eventually sync on its own, or did you have to contact VFS or the Indian Consulate?
I'm not traveling for another month, but I'd like to resolve this before booking my flights. If anyone has gone through something similar, I'd appreciate hearing how long it took and what steps you followed.
I understand that processing systems may not update instantly, and each case can be different, but I'd like to know whether this is a common issue.
My experience was slightly different. I had renewed my passport in Australia and noticed the e-OCI still displayed the previous passport information more than a week after my OCI update was completed.
I contacted the VFS help desk first, and they confirmed that my application had already been forwarded correctly. They suggested checking with the Indian Consulate because the portal information hadn't refreshed yet.
A few days later, the passport details were updated without me having to submit another application. I never found out whether someone manually refreshed the record or whether the system eventually synchronized on its own.
I experienced something very similar after renewing my Canadian passport. My OCI Miscellaneous Services application was approved, but the e-OCI portal continued showing my old passport number for about three days.
I didn't submit another application or contact anyone immediately. I checked the portal again after a few days, and the updated passport details appeared automatically. It looked like there was simply a delay between the approval and the digital record being refreshed.
If your update was only completed recently, it may be worth waiting a little longer before assuming something is wrong. Of course, timelines can vary depending on individual cases.

Before assuming there's a syncing issue, I'd double-check that the OCI update application was completed for passport details and not just another miscellaneous service.
Also, make sure you're logging into the same OCI account that's linked to your registered email. A friend of mine had an older email linked to their OCI record, which caused confusion when viewing their e-OCI dashboard.
