I recently submitted my OCI application online and noticed that I made a mistake in one of the details. I am worried because I have already submitted the form and received an application reference number.
The mistake is in my personal information. I am not sure whether I can log back into the OCI portal and edit the application, or whether I need to submit a new application from scratch.
I have also seen people mention that some errors can be corrected by re-uploading documents or photographs, while other mistakes require a fresh application. I do not want to submit a duplicate application unnecessarily or risk delaying the process.
Has anyone corrected an OCI application after submission? What should I do if the mistake is in my name, date of birth, passport number or other personal details? Is it different if the application has already been acknowledged by the Indian Mission or is under processing?
I would appreciate advice on the correct procedure and whether I need to contact the OCI helpdesk or the Indian Mission handling my application.
I made a similar mistake while preparing an application, and I would recommend checking the printed application form before proceeding further.
If the error is in a personal detail such as your name or date of birth, compare it with your current passport and other supporting documents. Do not assume that the Mission can simply edit the submitted form manually.
If the application has already been submitted, contact the relevant Indian Mission or authorised application centre and explain the exact error. Include your application reference number and ask whether you should submit a fresh application or follow another correction procedure.
If you are told to submit a new application, make sure you understand how the earlier application and fee will be handled. Avoid creating multiple applications without guidance, especially if the first one is already being processed.
The first thing I would check is whether you have only saved the application as a draft or have actually submitted it online.
If you have not submitted the form yet, log in and correct the details before final submission. Compare the information carefully with your passport and supporting documents, especially your name, date of birth, place of birth and passport details.
If you have already submitted the application, the procedure may be different. Some Indian Mission guidance says that details cannot be changed after online submission and that a fresh application may be required if there is an error.
However, photo, signature and supporting-document uploads may have separate re-upload options on the portal. So, an issue with an uploaded file is not necessarily handled the same way as an incorrect personal detail.
I would check the official instructions for the Mission or application centre where you are applying before starting another form.

The stage of your application matters.
The official OCI Miscellaneous Services guidance includes correction of wrong personal particulars for existing OCI cardholders. That is a different process from correcting an application that is still being processed.
I would keep a copy of the submitted form and the supporting documents so that you can clearly identify the incorrect field when contacting the Mission.
