e-OCI Card USA Processing Time 2026 Discussion

I applied for a new e-OCI Card in the USA about three weeks ago and wanted to compare timelines with others. I submitted my application through VFS Global Houston, completed biometrics the same week, and received the acknowledgment from the OCI portal a few days later.

Since then, my application status has remained "Under Process" without any further updates. I know processing times can vary depending on the Indian Consulate and document verification, but I'm wondering what others are experiencing in 2026.

If you've recently received your e-OCI Card in the USA, could you share:

  • Which VFS center or Indian Consulate handled your application?
  • How long did it take from acknowledgment to approval?
  • Did you receive any request for additional documents?
  • How soon were you able to download your e-OCI after approval?

I'm not in urgent need of travel, but I'd like to get a realistic idea of current processing times. I understand every application is different, so I'm just looking for recent experiences.

I applied from Chicago, and my case took a little longer because the Consulate requested a clearer copy of one supporting document. After I uploaded the replacement, the application continued normally. Based on my experience, it's worth checking your email regularly in case they need any additional documents.

I applied through VFS San Francisco in early June. My acknowledgment came within a few days, and the status stayed "Under Process" for almost five weeks. After that, it changed to Processed, and I was able to download my e-OCI shortly afterward. I wasn't asked for any extra documents, so the wait was mostly during verification.

My application went through VFS New York. The total processing time was around seven weeks from submission. For the first month, there was no movement at all, so don't worry if your status doesn't change immediately. In my case, everything updated within a few days once the application reached the final stage.
