I'm trying to register on the new e-OCI portal to apply for an OCI card after becoming a British citizen, but I've been running into several technical glitches over the past few days.
I'm applying from Manchester, UK, and started the registration process on July 27, 2026. Sometimes the registration page loads normally, but after I enter my details and complete the CAPTCHA, the portal either refreshes back to the login page or displays a generic error. On a couple of attempts, I managed to create an account, but when I logged in again, I couldn't continue with the application.
I've tried Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, cleared my browser cache, disabled extensions, and even used another laptop, but the issue keeps happening. I also checked my email for the OTP, and while it eventually arrived, it took several minutes and had already expired by the time I entered it.
Has anyone else experienced technical glitches during e-OCI registration recently? If so, did the issue resolve on its own, or was there something specific that helped?
I understand the portal is relatively new, so I'm wondering if these are temporary system issues rather than something wrong with my application. I'd appreciate hearing about recent experiences before I contact the helpdesk.
I experienced something very similar while applying from New Jersey, USA. During registration, the portal kept logging me out after I completed the CAPTCHA, and I couldn't move to the next step.
The following evening I tried again during off-peak hours, and everything worked normally. I also made sure my browser wasn't auto-filling any fields because I noticed the portal occasionally rejected those entries.
Based on my experience, these types of glitches can happen, especially after major updates to the portal. I saved screenshots of every error message in case I needed to contact support, but fortunately I was able to complete the registration without opening a ticket.
I applied from Singapore, and my biggest issue was the delayed OTP emails. Sometimes the verification code arrived almost immediately, while other times it took several minutes.
I requested a new OTP only after the previous one had expired because multiple requests seemed to make things even more confusing. Once I successfully registered, I didn't have any further issues with the application itself.
From what I've read, if OTP problems continue, it's worth checking your spam folder and verifying that you're using the same email address you registered with before contacting the designated helpdesk.

I completed my registration from Canada last month. I kept getting a "Record Not Found" message when trying to access my saved application, even though I had registered successfully.
After waiting a day and signing in again with my temporary application details, my saved information reappeared. I didn't need to start over.
Government portals sometimes have synchronization delays, so I wouldn't immediately assume your registration has failed. If the same error continues for several days, keep a record of the dates, screenshots, and any reference numbers before contacting the OCI helpdesk or the relevant Indian Mission. Based on my experience, having those details made it much easier to explain the issue.
