The renewal time for a passport in India depends on the scheme that you opt for. If you choose the normal scheme it will take around 30-60 days and on the other hand, if you choose the Tatkaal scheme it will take around 3-7 days. There are other factors also that may affect the waiting time like police verification reports, tough cases, etc.

Once you have completed the application and document submission at the main passport office, it typically takes a month or two to verify your identity and proof of address through police verification. Your nearest police station will check your case. Generally, they call you beforehand and tell you to be ready with the documents. Once all these things are done, you will get a message in a few days that your passport has been dispatched to the passport centre. Now, you need to wait for the passport to be couriered. This is the scene with the normal passport cases. In case your passport application gets delayed beyond this without a reason, you can contact the immigration officials via email or call.

It totally depends on your paperwork. If your residence address is the same as the one listed on your old passport, then there is no requirement for police verification, and you can obtain your new passport within 3 to 4 days. If there is a change in your current address and you have lived at your new address for more than a year, providing sufficient proof during the police verification, you can obtain your passport within a week. If the paperwork is complex or you have lived at multiple places within the last 12 months, the police verification may take time, and it could take weeks to obtain your new passport.

Generally, within 10 to 12 days, you get your new passport from the application submission date. If you have applied for passport renewal, and all the information in it is the same as your old passport, then within a week, you will get your renewed passport. The officials returned your old passport with a cancelled stamp immediately after the application submission of your new passport. Additionally, if you have not used the existing visa of your old passport during your trip, you need to carry both passports, i.e., old and new, as the visas on your old passport remain valid.
