One of my relatives is a PIO cardholder. The card is valid till 2028. As of now, until 31 December 2025, the PIO card is going to be accepted at any Indian immigration spot. In November 2025, he needs to visit India, so his PIO card will be accepted at that time; that is not an issue. The issue is that he will return to the country in January 2026. What should he do other than apply for an OCI card at that time of his existence from India, if a PIO card is not going to be accepted during his departure?
I have a PIO card, and in the past, using it, I traveled to India. It is still valid. I am confused about the ongoing information about the PIO to OCI conversion. Has anybody recently travelled to India using the PIO card, and was that accepted by the immigration authority without any issue?

Until 31 December 2025, your PIO card remains valid for travel to India. However, before 31 December 2025, you must convert your PIO card to an OCI card, as it will no longer be valid in India after that date. The conversion process in the UK takes a couple of weeks, but in India it takes around four months. For a safe trip to India, it is advisable to convert your PIO card to an OCI, depending on your location.
