This is to help anyone who has a PIO card. The Indian government has extended the validity of the PIO card until December 31, 2025. It means PIO cardholders can still use their card up to this date, even if it is handwritten, along with a valid foreign passport, when travelling to India. If you know someone who has a PIO card, please ensure they are updated about this extension.
Yes, of course, you can apply for an OCI card after your PIO card expires. If you have a valid PIO card as of January 9, 2015, you will be considered an OCI cardholder
Are PIO cards still valid, or must everyone obtain an OCI card? If so, could someone please inform me about the process I need to follow to apply for an OCI card?
As far as I know, all PIO cardholders are required to convert their PIO cards into OCI cards, as the government has withdrawn the PIO scheme.

I am currently in the 12th grade in the CBSE board, holding a PIO card. The deadline for PIO cards was valid till 31st Dec, 2024. Now, I checked that this deadline was originally last year, but it has been extended to this year. So, if my PIO expires, will that have any impact on my 12th CBSE board exams? Do they constantly extend the deadline?
