An Indian passport holder should renew their Indian passport before 9 months of the expiry. It helps to avoid late application submission. Also, if you apply for an Indian passport at the last moment, then it can create a hurdle in your travel plans because of the long processing time taken by the passport authorities due to a high number of applications received.
