I emailed VFS and asked them about the renunciation and surrender certificate. They reply to me in one sentence, stating that both certificates are the same. So, during my OCI application, I will use this surrender certificate.
I want to get citizenship of another country, for which I have applied for a surrender certificate through the online government website, then selected my application type as surrender of Indian Passport, then filled out all the details in the application form and submitted the application form and noted my ARN number, then I registered through the VFS Global website and selected my consulate in my US state, and booked an apoointment at the nearest application centre and poai the online fees for my surrender of Indian passport, which is 25$ for the government fee, 3$ for the ICWF welfare fund, 25$ for my VFS Serice charges, and 30$ for the shipping charges then I printed my payment receipt. I gathered all the applications and supporting documents and mailed them to the VFS application centre, and after 3-4 weeks, I got my Indian surrender certificate.
I had applied for an Indian renunciation certificate. I just got my Indian passport back with a signed document, which stated "surrender certificate" on it. So, here my question is, are surrender and renunciation certificates the same?
According to the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955, India does not allow dual citizenship, so to get citizenship of another country, you have to get a surrender certificate by applying online through the official Indian passport government website. For which you need to fill out an online application form, you need to print your application form, attach all the photos and signature with it, and book an appointment to submit your surrender certificate application with all the documents and pay the fees for the application.
