I recently came across announcements about the new e-OCI system and was wondering if anyone here has actually linked their existing OCI record to it. I'm an Indian-origin US citizen and have held a physical OCI card for several years. My card is still valid, and I haven't needed any miscellaneous services since receiving it.
After reading a few news articles, I wasn't sure whether current OCI cardholders need to register separately for e-OCI or if the existing OCI records will automatically appear once the system is fully implemented. I checked my email for any notification from the Indian Consulate or VFS but haven't received anything so far.
I'm planning to travel to India in a couple of months, so I want to avoid any last-minute issues at immigration. I also renewed my US passport last year and completed the required OCI passport update, so I'm hoping everything is already up to date.
Has anyone successfully linked their existing OCI record to the new e-OCI platform? If yes, was there a separate application, identity verification, or document upload involved? I'd also like to know whether you received any confirmation after the process.
I understand that new systems often take time to roll out and that requirements may differ depending on the country. I'm mainly looking for real experiences from people who have already gone through the process or have received official guidance.
I'm from Canada and had the same concern because my parents and I all have OCI cards issued in different years.
After checking the official OCI website and the Indian High Commission's updates, I couldn't find any announcement asking existing OCI holders to link their records to a new e-OCI system. That made me think the rollout is either still in progress or further instructions haven't been released yet.
My advice would be not to rely on social media posts claiming everyone needs to register immediately. In the past, official OCI updates have usually come with detailed instructions and implementation dates. Requirements can change, so it's best to wait for confirmed guidance before taking any action.
I'm in the UK and have been following the e-OCI updates as well. As of now, I haven't been able to link my existing OCI because I haven't seen any official facility that allows current OCI cardholders to do that.
Most of the information I've found discusses the upcoming system rather than an active migration process. I also contacted the VFS helpdesk a few weeks ago regarding another OCI query, and they said they hadn't received any instructions about existing cardholders registering for e-OCI.
If a linking process is introduced, I expect the Government of India will publish detailed guidance explaining who needs to register, what documents are required, and whether the process is automatic or manual. Until then, I'm continuing to use my physical OCI card as usual.

I don't think anyone can honestly say they've completed the process unless the official platform is live and accepting existing OCI records.
There's been a lot of discussion online, but I haven't seen verified reports from people confirming they successfully linked an older OCI card. If the government launches a migration process, I'd expect there to be an official notification explaining how existing OCI holders should proceed.
If you're traveling soon, I'd continue carrying your valid foreign passport along with your physical OCI card and keep an eye on official announcements before departure. That's probably the safest approach until more information is available.
