I'm a U.S. citizen of Indian origin and recently tried downloading my new e-OCI card from the OCI Services Portal. I logged into my account using the same email address linked to my OCI record, went to the e-OCI section, and clicked "Generate e-OCI Card."
The request appeared to go through, but I'm unable to download the PDF. The dashboard either continues to show that the request has been generated or the download button never appears. I've tried different browsers, cleared my cache, and logged out and back in several times, but nothing has changed.
My physical OCI booklet is still valid, so this isn't affecting immediate travel, but I wanted to keep the digital copy on my phone before my next trip to India.
Has anyone else experienced this after requesting an e-OCI? How long did it take before the PDF became available? Did you have to contact the consulate or was it simply a matter of waiting?
Also, if the issue was related to the registered email address or OCI profile, how did you resolve it?
I realize the e-OCI system is relatively new and there may be occasional technical delays, so I'm mainly looking for real experiences from others who have successfully downloaded their e-OCI PDF.
Mine turned out to be an email issue rather than a system problem. The OCI record was linked to an old email address that I no longer used.
I registered a new account on the OCI portal with my current email address and submitted an Email ID Updation request under OCI Miscellaneous Services. After that request was approved, my OCI profile appeared correctly on the dashboard, and I was able to generate and download the e-OCI PDF. The OCI portal requires the OCI record to be linked to the registered email before the e-OCI can be managed.
If you've changed email addresses since your OCI was issued, it might be worth checking that first.
I ran into the same issue in the UK. After clicking "Generate e-OCI Card," nothing happened for several hours. The dashboard kept showing that the request had been generated, but there wasn't any download option.
I left it overnight and checked the next morning again. The PDF download button finally appeared without me doing anything else.
From what I've seen, generation isn't always instant. The official FAQs mention generating the e-OCI first and then downloading it once it's becomes available, but they don't promise that it will happen immediately.
If your request has already been submitted successfully, I'd probably wait a little longer before assuming there's a problem.

I don't think you're the only one. When the e-OCI feature first launched, quite a few people on community forums mentioned waiting anywhere from a few minutes to about a day before the PDF became available after clicking "Generate." Some users reported that simply logging out and checking again later solved it, while others needed to update their registered email before the download option appeared.
If you're not traveling immediately, I'd give it 24 hours first. If the PDF still isn't available after that, I'd verify that your OCI account, registered email, and passport details are correctly linked.
