How Can You Check the PIO to OCI Application Status Online?

Just to add to this, don't confuse OCI application status with the status of your document submission.

There can be different stages involving the application, document verification and the Indian Mission/FRRO. The official OCI portal specifically says that OCI Status Enquiry is available for applications submitted at Indian Missions/FRROs.

If your application isn't showing yet, I'd first double-check that you're entering the application ID exactly as provided and using the passport number associated with the application.

I also wouldn't assume that “Under Process” means something is wrong. Mine remained at a processing stage for quite a while before there was another update.

If you're waiting significantly longer than the timeframe communicated by your particular Mission, that's when I'd contact the concerned Indian Mission/Post rather than repeatedly submitting another application.

I went through something similar from the UK. I was initially confused because I was checking the application using the VFS reference number, but the OCI portal uses its own application information.

The official OCI portal has a dedicated “Track Application Status” page where you enter the Application ID and Passport No. along with the captcha.

Once the application was properly registered, I could see the status there. I also kept checking my registered email because I didn't want to miss any communication from the Indian Mission.

If your application was originally a PIO-to-OCI conversion, remember that the terminology on older websites can be confusing. I found several old pages referring to PIO conversion that were no longer very useful.

I'd recommend starting with the current Ministry of Home Affairs OCI portal. The MHA website itself provides an “Online Status Enquiry” link for OCI applications. 

Yes, there is an official OCI status enquiry page. I used it when I applied for my OCI, although my situation was not the same as yours.

The OCI portal asks for your Application ID, passport number, and captcha on the Track Application Status page.

In my case, the status did not appear immediately after I submitted everything. It took some time for the application to move into the online tracking system. I wouldn't worry if there is a delay of a few days.

One thing I would suggest is keeping the application number/reference details from your submission confirmation. You may need them later.

Also, don't rely only on the VFS tracking page if you applied through an outsourced service provider. There can be separate tracking stages for document submission and the OCI application itself.

Requirements and procedures can change, so I would use the current OCI government portal rather than an old PIO/OCI tracking link.

Mine was processed through the USA, and I found it helpful to keep my acknowledgment number handy because that's what I needed whenever I checked the online status.

I also noticed that some status messages aren't very detailed. "Processed" doesn't necessarily mean the OCI booklet has already reached the VFS center. There can still be a few administrative steps before it's ready for pickup or delivery.

If your status hasn't changed for an unusually long time, you may want to contact VFS or the relevant Indian mission for an update. Individual timelines can differ.

I had a similar experience in Australia. My application stayed on "Under Process" for several weeks before changing to "Processed." After that, there was still a short wait before the courier tracking became active.

One thing I learned is that the online status mainly reflects the processing stage, while VFS handles the collection or delivery updates. If you selected courier service, watch for an email with tracking details.

If your travel is coming up soon, I'd avoid making assumptions based only on the status page and verify the latest information with VFS if you're concerned.
