To check the PIO to OCI Application Status Online, firstly, you need to visit the official OCI website and choose the option that says OCI inquiry. Once you click on that, an option will appear saying "View your application status"; click on that option. Once you do that, you will be redirected to a new page where you need to provide some details like your application file number and passport number. After that, you will be required to add a captcha; ensure to fill it out properly, or else it might cancel the whole process. Once you enter the captcha, look out for the "Get Status" option and click on it. Now wait for some time, and soon, your OCI status will be reflected on the next screen.

Mine was processed through the USA, and I found it helpful to keep my acknowledgment number handy because that's what I needed whenever I checked the online status.

I also noticed that some status messages aren't very detailed. "Processed" doesn't necessarily mean the OCI booklet has already reached the VFS center. There can still be a few administrative steps before it's ready for pickup or delivery.

If your status hasn't changed for an unusually long time, you may want to contact VFS or the relevant Indian mission for an update. Individual timelines can differ.

I had a similar experience in Australia. My application stayed on "Under Process" for several weeks before changing to "Processed." After that, there was still a short wait before the courier tracking became active.

One thing I learned is that the online status mainly reflects the processing stage, while VFS handles the collection or delivery updates. If you selected courier service, watch for an email with tracking details.

If your travel is coming up soon, I'd avoid making assumptions based only on the status page and verify the latest information with VFS if you're concerned.

I completed my PIO to OCI conversion in Canada earlier this year. In my case, I checked both the OCI status portal and the VFS tracking page because they didn't always update at the same time.

The government status changed to "Processed" first, but it still took around a week before VFS emailed me that my OCI document was ready for dispatch. I was worried something had gone wrong, but it turned out to be normal.

Based on my experience, I'd continue monitoring both tracking systems. Requirements and timelines can vary depending on the consulate and workload.

Here are some of the benefits of checking OCI application status:

    • If you regularly check your OCI application status, then you will get a report of your OCI application progress.
    • Check your OCI application status regularly. In case your application gets rejected or stuck due to missing documents, you can submit the missing documents to solve the issue.
    • Always check for the OCI card status online to have a clear understanding of the additional cost for the OCI application.
    • Regularly checking your OCI application status will help you get knowledge of OCI eligibility and important updates related to the OCI application.

There are different types of OCI application status stages, which are given below:

    • If your OCI application is showing under process, then it means that your application is registered at the Indian embassy, and for further processing, ministry clearance is required.
    • If your OCI application status is showing processed, then your OCI application is processed, and your OCI card has been issued.
    • If your OCI application status is showing Waiting for dispatch, then your card has been confirmed and is being processed for dispatch.
    • If your application status is showing Dispatched, then it means that your OCI card has been sent, and you will get your OCI within 10-15 days.
