I am an OCI cardholder, currently staying in India with my wife and children. I want to get an Indian driving license. Can anyone help with the process and guide me on what to do? Additionally, are there any specific requirements I need to meet as a foreign national compared to an Indian citizen?

Yes, as an OCI cardholder, you are eligible to apply for an Indian driving license. I am an OCI cardholder myself, and I used my OCI card as proof of identity because the Indian government issues it, and to prove my residential status, I used my electricity bill. The rest of the process was similar to that of a normal driving license for an Indian citizen.

Remember my suggestion if you don't want to get scammed. If you are going to an agent, do not mention that you are an OCI cardholder, or else you will be left empty-handed. They will try to grab more cash from you by saying that it will cost you more since you are not an Indian citizen. There is no such rule, so stay aware of such scammers.

Of course, yes, an OCI cardholder can apply for an Indian driving license. If you are 18 years old or above and have a valid OCI card, then you can easily apply for a driving license in India. You need to visit your nearest local RTO (Regional Transport Office) and take a driving test, along with submitting the required documents and paying the applicable fees. Check with the local RTO to know any specific requirements or changes in the procedure.

You may need to submit documents when applying for a driver's license. Ensure you check with the local RTO to determine the required documents and any specific requirements. But these are some of the documents that are required, as per my knowledge: an OCI card, a passport with a valid visa, proof of address in India, and passport-sized photographs. Since I applied for a commercial license, I was also asked to submit a medical certificate. The documents may vary in your situation, so do check before applying.

Can someone tell me the procedure to apply for a driving license in India as an OCI cardholder? Is there something different that I need to submit or follow?
