The PIO (Persons of Indian Origin )card scheme was withdrawn by the Indian government and was merged with the OCI (Overseas Citizens of India ) card scheme. So, now PIO cards are not valid, and it is important to get your PIO card converted to an OCI card.

In 2002, the PIO scheme was launched by the government to provide citizenship benefits to Indian-origin people with foreign citizenship. This scheme was later abolished by the Indian government and merged with the OCI card. Therefore, anyone holding a PIO card must convert it into an OCI card, and the process of updating or converting a PIO to an OCI is referred to as PIO to OCI conversion.
