The processing time for converting a PIO to an OCI card typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. Still, the timeframe can vary based on several factors, such as the quality of the documents submitted and whether additional security checks are needed.

People who have a PIO must get it converted to an OCI because OCI cards have lifelong validity. They allow you to travel visa-free to india anytime, and you can stay there for as long as you want without registering.OCI cards also provide more rights and privileges than a PIO cardholder.

If you are a PIO cardholder and you have not yet converted your card to OCI, then you must do it as soon as possible because the PIO card will no longer be considered valid after 31st December 2025 for travel or identification purposes in india. Applying at the end may make the process complex, so do it as soon as you can.

Hi, Everyone must note that OCI cards cannot be expedited or processed on an emergency basis. So, if you want to travel to India for an emergency, you will have to apply for the appropriate visa. You can apply for a visa even when your OCI application is in process.

I couldn't convert my PIO card last year, but I heard from someone that the conversion date has been extended to this year. Can someone please help me regarding where I need to apply for the conversion, and is conversion really necessary?

I recently completed my PIO to OCI conversion, and it was a very straightforward process. I did it in the us, the country of my citizenship, and where I got my PIO from. So, the process was quite simple for me. I didn't have to submit a lot of documents, and it took nearly 4-6 weeks for me to receive the card.
