OCI Application Delayed at Consulate – Recent Experiences

I had an additional-document request during my application, so my timeline was different from people whose applications were complete from the beginning.

That's something worth keeping in mind when comparing timelines on the forum. An application can appear to be taking longer for many different reasons, and we don't always know what is happening internally.

I would avoid repeatedly submitting documents unless the consulate specifically asks for them. In my case, I waited for the official instruction rather than sending random documents through email.

Also, if your application is still showing as under process, I wouldn't assume that it means rejection. The OCI status system is there to check the application's current status, but it doesn't necessarily provide a detailed explanation of every processing stage.

If you've got travel planned, that's a separate concern. I'd check directly with the relevant Indian Mission about what travel document you can use based on your current citizenship and circumstances rather than assuming an OCI application in progress gives you any travel entitlement.

Mine moved through the stages fairly quickly after acknowledgement, but I've seen other applicants waiting considerably longer. I think the important thing is to distinguish between acknowledgement and approval.

The OCI website says the normal time taken for issue of an OCI registration booklet is about 30 days from acknowledgement on the online system. However, I wouldn't interpret that as a guaranteed deadline for every application or every consular jurisdiction.

If you've already passed that point, you can check whether the status has changed and whether there are any remarks or requests associated with the application.

I'd also make sure you're checking the OCI government portal rather than only the VFS tracking page. VFS may show information about document submission or logistics, while the OCI portal provides the government application status.

If you contact the consulate, include your application ID, passport number, acknowledgement date and a brief description of the issue. That makes it easier for them to identify the application.

Requirements and processing arrangements can change, so I'd verify the current procedure with your specific Indian Mission.
