e-OCI Application Status Not Updating

I recently completed my OCI application in the USA through VFS San Francisco. My status didn't update for almost four weeks after the documents reached the Consulate.

I was worried because I kept comparing my timeline with other people online, but every application seems to move differently. Some applicants receive acknowledgment within days, while others wait much longer.

One thing I found helpful was keeping a record of every important date—online submission, courier delivery, VFS acknowledgment, and any emails received. That made it easier to explain the situation when I contacted VFS.

Based on my experience, the online status page isn't always updated in real time. If your application has been with the Consulate for an extended period without any communication, it's reasonable to make a polite inquiry. Just remember that individual cases differ, and processing times can vary depending on workload and document verification.

Mine was a little different because I applied from the UK through VFS London. My status updated within two weeks, but shortly afterward the Consulate requested an additional document to clarify my address history.

Interestingly, the online tracker didn't immediately reflect that request. I only found out because I received an email from VFS a couple of days later.

That's why I always recommend checking both your email inbox and spam folder while monitoring the OCI tracker. Sometimes communication arrives before the tracking page fully updates.

Requirements and timelines can change, so it's worth keeping copies of everything you submitted. If the Consulate needs anything else, they'll normally let you know rather than leaving the application without any communication.

I had a very similar experience earlier this year in Vancouver. My application was submitted through VFS in early February, and the e-OCI application status didn't change for almost a month. I kept checking every few days because I expected to see an acknowledgment much sooner.

In my case, the status remained unchanged until the Consulate officially entered the application into their processing system. Once that happened, several updates appeared within a relatively short period. It wasn't a gradual process at all.

I contacted VFS twice during that time, and they explained that they could only confirm receipt and forwarding of the documents. They couldn't see the internal processing status.

Based on my experience, a delay in the online status doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem. That said, if several more weeks pass without any acknowledgment, you may want to follow up again. Processing times can differ depending on application volume and the specific Consulate handling the case.
