e-OCI Application Acknowledged but No Update After Several Weeks

Hello everyone,

I'm a Canadian citizen living in Vancouver and recently applied for an OCI card through the new e-OCI registration system. My application was submitted successfully, and I received the acknowledgment on April 18, 2026.

It's now been almost eight weeks, and the OCI status has not changed since the acknowledgment stage. There have been no requests for additional documents, no emails, and no movement on the tracking page. The status simply shows that the application has been acknowledged.

I submitted all the required documents, including my Canadian passport, surrender certificate, citizenship certificate, and proof of address. Before applying, I carefully reviewed the OCI document checklist and made sure everything matched exactly.

What concerns me is that I've seen some people report receiving OCI approval within six to eight weeks, while others mention much longer processing times. Since this is my first OCI application after acquiring Canadian citizenship, I'm not sure whether this delay is unusual or fairly common.

Has anyone else experienced an e-OCI application stuck after acknowledgment?

A few questions I have:

  • How long did your OCI processing take after acknowledgment?
  • Did your status remain unchanged for several weeks?
  • Were you eventually asked for additional documents?
  • At what point did you contact the consulate or application center?

Any recent experiences would be helpful. Thanks.

I had an OCI application for my daughter submitted through the e-OCI portal from the UK.

The acknowledgment was issued quickly, but the next status update didn't appear for almost two months. Since it was a minor OCI application, I was worried there was an issue with the birth certificate or parental documents.

Eventually, the status updated without any intervention from us. The application was approved a few weeks later.

What I noticed from various OCI discussions is that acknowledgment only confirms receipt of the application. It doesn't necessarily mean substantive processing has begun. Some applications move quickly, while others remain unchanged for extended periods.

Requirements and timelines can vary, so comparing your case directly with someone else's may not always be helpful.

I'm based in California and applied for OCI through the new system shortly after it became available.

My application remained at the acknowledgment stage for nearly nine weeks. I contacted the application center after week eight, and they advised me that they could not provide processing updates beyond what appeared online.

A few days later, I received an email requesting a clearer copy of my surrender certificate. After I uploaded the document, the application started moving again.

One thing I learned is that not all document reviews happen immediately. Sometimes applications sit in queue before detailed verification begins.

If you haven't received any communication, I would continue monitoring the status, but keep copies of all your submitted documents ready in case additional information is requested later.

I applied from Toronto earlier this year and had a very similar experience.

My e-OCI application was acknowledged about two weeks after submission, and then absolutely nothing happened for nearly seven weeks. The tracking page remained unchanged the entire time.

I started getting concerned because other applicants on forums were reporting faster OCI processing times. Eventually, my status jumped directly from acknowledgment to processing and then to issuance within about ten days.

In my case, no additional documents were requested. The delay seemed to be entirely on the processing side.

Based on my experience, a long gap after acknowledgment isn't necessarily a sign that something is wrong. Different applications appear to move at different speeds depending on verification requirements and workload.
