The Indian X visa, also known as an entry visa, is issued to foreign nationals of Indian origin, including those whose parents, grandparents, or spouse are of Indian origin. The X visa or entry visa allows individuals to visit India for extended stays up to 180 days.

The documents required for an Indian X visa or entry visa include a completed and filled application form, two recent passport-size photographs, and a valid passport with at least 180 days of remaining validity. Applicants must also provide proof of address and proof of payment with the applicant’s full name and visa type.

The eligibility criteria for the Indian X visa, also known as an entry visa, are based on Indian origin and family. Individuals who currently hold an Indian passport, or those whose parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents were born in India or were permanent residents of the country, are eligible. Additionally, a foreign national married to a person of Indian origin also qualifies for an Indian X visa. or Entry visa.

Hello, is it possible to an Nri to extend there're stay beyond 180 days in India if the have a valid 5 year visa? and if not would it be better to convert their tourist visa to a business visa? so they could stay longer and also set up a small business to support their stay?

      • No, you generally cannot stay beyond 180 days on a Tourist Visa, even if it’s valid for 5 years. That validity is for multiple entries, not continuous stay.
      • Staying longer without permission can lead to fines or visa issues.
      • Extension is rarely allowed (only for emergencies, via FRRO).
      • You cannot convert a Tourist Visa to a Business Visa inside India. You must leave India and apply again.
      • A Business Visa can allow longer stays, but only if you have a genuine business purpose.
      • Best option: If eligible, apply for an OCI card — it allows unlimited stay in India without the 180-day limit.
