Yes, citizens of the US will need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) to enter into the UK for a lot of purposes starting the 8th of January, 2025. An ETA will replace the visa-free travel that the US citizens enjoyed earlier. It costs £10 and takes up to three working days to get approved. An ETA has a validity of two years.

Yes, U.S. citizens require a valid visa to travel to the UK. From 8 January 2025, this measure will take effect in the UK. Therefore, if you are a U.S. citizen, ensure you have a valid travel visa to visit the country.

Well, it is not a visa that US citizens require to travel to the UK; it is an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for all US and foreign travellers who previously did not need a visa to visit the UK. Through this, the travellers can stay in the country for up to six months. It is available for various purposes, including tourism, business, family visits, conferences, meetings, and short-term study.

As of January 8, 2025, U.S. citizens will be required to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to travel to the UK for business, tourism, or short-term study purposes.

All US citizens visiting the UK for family visits, tourism, business, conferences, short-term study, or meetings for six months or less must apply for a valid Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) visa before traveling. This is the travel requirement stated by the UK government for all foreign travelers who do not need a visa to travel to the country for many years.

Until last year, U.S. citizens were not required to apply for a visa for a short-term visit of six months or less to travel to the UK. However, from 8 January 2025, the UK immigration authorities have stated that all foreign travellers entering the country must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) visa for their short-term visits. Therefore, if you are a US citizen travelling to the UK for tourism or any other purpose, you must first obtain a valid visa for the UK; only then can you enter the country.
