To convert the PIO to OCI online, follow the steps below:

  1. You need to visit the official website of the OCI services.
  2. Register in the OCI services and log in through the given username and password to apply for a PIO to an OCI conversion online.
  3. Then you need to select the online application form instead of the PIO card.
  4. Fill in all the required details in the application form correctly.
  5. Submit an online application and take a printout of the application form with the registration number.
  6. Then send your OCI card application for PIO to OCI conversion with all the supporting documents to the application center or the relevant consular jurisdiction through mail. Or you can book an appointment with the nearest FRRO or Indian Mission/Post, then submit your application with all the necessary documents in person.
  7. Wait for a few weeks once your application is processed, and you will get your OCI card at your registered address.

Given below are some of the benefits of an OCI over a PIO card:

      • The OC cards give you life-long visa-free entry, and the PIO card only gives you visa-free entry for 15 years. With an OCI card, you can get multiple entries and exits from Indian without the need to renew.
      • With an OCI card, you don't need to report your stay to the local police or any authority for your stay in India.
      • OCI cardholders get equal rights and privileges same as NRIs, in the economic, educational, and financial sectors.
      • OCI cardholders' access to special bank accounts with good interest rates and other benefits.
