Is OCI status "Under Process" for 9 weeks normal?

I had an OCI application that remained under process for longer than expected, too. What helped me was keeping a record of the acknowledgment number, application date, and all correspondence.

I contacted the Mission only after checking the online status several times and confirming that there was no additional-document request.

I would also distinguish between VFS processing and the actual OCI application processing. VFS handles the application submission side, while the OCI application itself is processed through the Indian authorities.

Nine weeks doesn't necessarily mean rejection or a problem. It simply means the application has gone beyond the normal processing timeframe in your case.

Requirements and processing procedures can change, so I'd use the current official OCI status system and the relevant Mission's published contact information rather than relying on old forum posts.

My experience was different. Mine was completed in around four weeks after acknowledgment, so I was surprised when I saw people waiting much longer.

One thing to remember is that OCI processing isn't necessarily identical for every applicant. Mine was a straightforward application and all my documents had matching names and details.

If your case involves a recent change of citizenship, name change, previous Indian passport issues, or documents from different countries, there may be additional verification. That's only a possibility, though, and I wouldn't assume that is the reason for your delay.

At nine weeks, I'd probably contact the appropriate Mission rather than relying entirely on other applicants' timelines. The official processing information is a better reference than individual experiences.

After the status finally changed, the remaining steps moved fairly quickly.

If you are already at nine weeks, I would check the OCI status carefully and make sure there isn't a message or request that you missed. I would also check your email, including the spam folder.

If everything is still unchanged, contacting the relevant Indian Mission/Post seems reasonable at this stage. I wouldn't submit a new application just because the first one is delayed.
