I'm a US citizen and recently renewed my US passport. I already have an OCI card, and I've also downloaded my new e-OCI card after updating my passport details through the OCI Miscellaneous Services portal.
I'm planning to travel to India in about three weeks, but I'm a little confused about what documents I should carry. My physical OCI card still shows my old passport number, while my e-OCI reflects the updated passport details.
Has anyone recently traveled to India with an e-OCI card and a newly issued passport? Did airline staff or Indian immigration ask for the old passport, or was the new passport along with the updated e-OCI sufficient?
I've read different experiences online, and some people say they carried both their old and new passports just to avoid questions. Others mentioned they only presented their new passport and e-OCI without any issues.
My experience was a little different when flying from Toronto.
The airline representative wasn't familiar with the newer e-OCI process and initially questioned why my physical OCI showed a different passport number. I explained that I had already updated the details online and showed the downloaded e-OCI.
After checking with a supervisor, they accepted it without any problem. Immigration in India was straightforward and only verified my documents.
