I'm hoping someone here has experienced something similar with the new e-OCI system.
I'm a U.S. citizen living in Texas and have held an OCI card for several years. I recently renewed my U.S. passport because it was expiring, and after hearing about the e-OCI portal, I logged in to update my passport details online. I uploaded my new passport information, my recent photograph, and completed the online submission about 10 days ago.
The submission was accepted, and I didn't receive any error messages. However, when I log back into my account, the e-OCI system still displays my old passport number instead of the new one. There's no indication that the update failed, but there's also no confirmation that it has been completed.
I'm planning to travel to India next month, so I'm a bit concerned. I still have my physical OCI card and both my old and new U.S. passports. From what I've read, the physical OCI card remains valid, but I'm unsure whether the passport details in the e-OCI system need to be updated before traveling.
My experience in Canada was a little different.
The portal showed my old passport details for almost two weeks. Eventually, I received a notification asking me to upload a clearer copy of my passport's photo page because part of the MRZ (machine-readable zone) wasn't fully visible.
Once I uploaded a higher-quality scan, the passport information changed within three days.
It might be worth checking whether your uploaded documents are clear and complete. If the system needs additional information, it may not update until that request is resolved. Processing times can also vary depending on the application.
I had almost the same issue earlier this year from New Jersey.
After uploading my new passport details, the portal continued showing my old passport information for nearly a week. I thought the update hadn't gone through, but then one morning the new passport number appeared without any email notification.
In my case, I wasn't asked for extra documents. I just kept checking the portal every day. The status messages weren't very detailed, so it wasn't obvious whether anything was happening in the background.
If your upload was accepted successfully, it may simply still be processing. Based on my experience, I'd give it a few more business days before assuming there's a problem.

I recently updated my wife's OCI details after her British passport renewal.
We noticed the same thing—the old passport number continued to appear even though the upload had been accepted. We contacted the Indian High Commission, and they advised us to wait because online updates are processed in batches.
About a week later, the portal reflected the new passport information without us needing to do anything else.
Based on that experience, I wouldn't panic if the old passport number is still visible for a while. Just keep monitoring the portal and make sure you've retained copies of your submission confirmation.
