To update your PAN card, you need to visit the NSDL website and fill in all the details like PAN number, Aadhar number, and date of birth, then tick the verify information box and click submit. Then select the way to get OTP and enter the given OTP to submit your application, then choose a payment mode and pay the fees. If you have requested within 30 days of issuance there it will be free. Otherwise, you need to pay INR 8.26, including GST. You will get your e-PAN within 30 minutes of payment.

One important distinction is between updating an existing PAN and getting an Instant e-PAN.

The Income Tax Department's current Instant e-PAN manual has an "Update PAN" option, but that particular service updates certain PAN details according to Aadhaar e-KYC. It lists photo, name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, and address among the details that can be updated through that Aadhaar-based process.

However, Instant e-PAN itself is primarily designed for individuals who have not already been allotted a PAN. The department's FAQ says a person who already has a PAN is not eligible to apply for a new Instant e-PAN.

So don't accidentally submit a request for a second PAN just because you want to update your existing one.

If your existing PAN needs a correction, especially where supporting documents are required, use the appropriate PAN correction facility through the authorised PAN service provider.

I'd also make sure the name and date of birth are correct before trying to link Aadhaar. The Income Tax Department specifically says mismatched details should be corrected so the PAN and Aadhaar records match.

I think a lot of the confusion is because people are using "PAN 2.0" to describe several changes happening around PAN services.

I recently updated my PAN details online. I already had a PAN, so I didn't apply for another one.

The Income Tax Department currently says that existing PAN and TAN numbers remain valid and that the new forms under the 2026 rules apply to fresh PAN applications submitted from April 1, 2026.

For Aadhaar-related corrections, the department also confirms that PAN details can be corrected through Protean or UTIITSL.

I'd first decide exactly what you're trying to change.

If it's a name mismatch, you may need supporting documentation depending on the correction. If you're trying to update information based on Aadhaar through the Instant e-PAN section, that's a different process and has specific eligibility conditions.

I initially went down the wrong route because I assumed "PAN 2.0" meant I had to generate a new e-PAN. That isn't how I would approach an existing PAN correction.

I had to correct my name on my PAN recently because it didn't match my Aadhaar.

From what I understood, PAN 2.0 doesn't mean that existing PAN holders need to surrender their PAN or apply for a completely new PAN number. The Income Tax Department says existing PAN/TAN numbers remain valid; the new PAN forms introduced from April 1, 2026 are for fresh applications, not replacing existing PAN numbers.

For a correction, I used the PAN service provider's correction facility rather than applying for another PAN.

The Income Tax Department's own Aadhaar-linking FAQ says that if the name, phone number, or date of birth doesn't match between PAN and Aadhaar, the details should be corrected in the relevant database. For PAN corrections, it directs taxpayers to Protean or UTIITSL.

So I wouldn't search for a separate "PAN 2.0 new PAN application" if you already have a PAN.

If you only need your PAN details updated, use the existing correction/update route and keep your current PAN number.

Updating your existing PAN card into a PAN card 2.0 is a very easy and simple process which don't take much time. You can simply apply for an update or a change in PAN card through the NSDL website or from the UTIITSL website by entering all the details and verifying your information.

You can also apply for an Update or change in PAN 2.0 through the UTIITSL e-pan portal, where you need to enter all the details like PAN number, date of birth, and Captcha code, then you need to confirm your email ID and need to register it if you have not done so. Then you need to pay fees of INR 8.26 if you are applying for an e-PAN after 30 days of issuance, and if you apply within 30 days, then it is free of cost. At last, you will get your e-PAN card to your given email ID after the processing of payment.
