Where Can I Get a Police Clearance Certificate?

I got my PCC while living outside India, so my process was different from yours.

For Indian citizens abroad, the Indian Mission/Consulate handling the applicant's jurisdiction can provide passport and consular services. The Passport Seva system specifically provides a route for passport services through Indian Missions and Posts abroad.

If you're currently in India, though, I would start with the official Passport Seva PCC service, rather than going to a police station first.

One other point: PCC is normally issued for purposes such as foreign residence, employment, long-term visa or immigration. The Passport Manual specifically distinguishes it from applications by people simply travelling abroad on a tourist visa.

So your Canadian permanent residence application is the kind of purpose for which PCC is normally requested.

I'd also make sure the name, date of birth, and passport number on the application exactly match your passport. Small discrepancies can cause unnecessary delays.

I had a similar situation when applying for Canadian immigration from Hyderabad.

The main thing I learned is that a PCC is different from simply getting a letter from your local police station saying that you have no criminal record.

For Indian passport holders, PCC is handled through the Passport authorities, and the Passport Manual says PCC applications can be submitted in India as well as through Indian Missions/Posts abroad. A fresh police report is generally required before the PCC is issued.

My police verification was done at my residential address after submitting the application.

Since you've moved and your passport has your old address, I'd be particularly careful when filling out the current address section. Don't simply copy the passport address if the application asks for your present address.

I would also keep your passport and address-related documents ready for the appointment.

For Canadian PR, make sure you check the PCC validity and document requirements directly with the Canadian authorities as well, because the country requesting the certificate may have its own rules about how recent it needs to be.

I applied for my Indian PCC through Passport Seva when I needed it for an Australian visa.

I didn't go directly to the police station to apply for the certificate. I submitted the PCC application through the Passport Seva system and then attended the appointment as instructed.

Passport Seva currently lists Police Clearance Certificate as one of its services.

In my case, police verification was involved because my address details needed to be checked. I would therefore make sure my current address is entered correctly in the application.

The local police station became relevant during the verification process, rather than being the place where I initially applied for the PCC.

I also wouldn't rely too much on someone's processing time from another city. My friend received his PCC faster than I did, even though both of us were applying for immigration purposes.

Before applying, check the current document requirements on the official Passport Seva website because requirements and procedures can change.

To apply for the Police Clearance Certificate, you will need some of the documents, which are given below:

Along with it, I have submitted all the essential documents for the PCC and paid online fees, and after some days, I got my Police Clearance Certificate at my registered address.
