Hi everyone,
I’m an Indian citizen currently living in the USA, and I’ve misplaced my physical PAN card. I still have my PAN number and need the card for some banking and financial paperwork in India.
Can I request a reprint of my existing PAN card online while living outside India, or do I need to ask someone in India to apply on my behalf?
I also want to know whether the reprinted card can be delivered directly to my overseas address. I’m not sure if I can use my current foreign address for delivery or if the request will automatically use the Indian address registered in my PAN records.
A few other questions:
What is the current fee for getting a physical PAN card reprinted and delivered abroad?
Do I need to submit identity or address documents again?
Can I download an e-PAN instead if international delivery is complicated?
If my address has changed since I originally applied, should I request a reprint or update my PAN details first?
I want to avoid applying for a new PAN unnecessarily, since I already have one.
If anyone has used the official reprint facility while living abroad, I’d appreciate guidance on the process and any issues to watch out for. Thanks!
The overseas delivery option is available through Protean’s reprint service, but the card is sent to the communication address recorded with the Income Tax Department. So, before paying, check which address is currently on your PAN record.
The fee listed on Protean’s online reprint page is ₹959, including taxes, for dispatch outside India, compared with ₹50 for delivery within India. Fees and service conditions can change, so confirm the amount shown on the official payment page before submitting your request.
If your PAN record still contains an old Indian address, don’t assume the reprint request will automatically send the card to your current overseas address. The dedicated reprint facility does not offer an address-change option.
If you need to change your PAN database details, use the applicable correction process first and check whether the overseas address can be recorded under the current rules. Once your details are updated, you can look into requesting a reprint using the appropriate service.
Yes, you can request a reprint of your existing PAN card from abroad, provided your PAN record is eligible for the online reprint facility.
Protean has a dedicated online reprint service for eligible PAN holders. You’ll need to enter your PAN and the requested verification details, then follow the instructions on the official portal.
One important point: the reprint facility is for getting another physical copy of your existing card. It is not intended for changing your name, date of birth, or address. Protean states that this particular facility is available for PAN holders whose latest PAN application was processed through Protean or who obtained PAN through the Income Tax Department’s Instant e-PAN facility.
If your PAN was processed through a different provider, check that provider’s official services instead. And don’t apply for a second PAN just because the physical card is lost. Use your existing PAN number.

If you mainly need to provide your PAN details for banking or financial paperwork, check whether the organisation will accept an e-PAN PDF. An electronic PAN can be a convenient alternative to waiting for a physical card.
However, if the organisation specifically asks for a physical card, you may still need to order a reprint. Also, downloading an e-PAN and ordering a physical reprint are different processes, and eligibility or charges may differ.
I’d first check whether your PAN was issued through Protean or the Income Tax Department’s Instant e-PAN service, because that affects eligibility for Protean’s dedicated reprint link. If the online service does not recognise your PAN, verify the issuing or processing channel rather than immediately submitting a fresh PAN application.
