My OCI application from Canada wasn't rejected, but it was returned for correction before processing. The issue was with the uploaded photograph and signature specifications.
From what I've seen in OCI forums, common rejection reasons include document upload errors, incorrect personal details, inconsistencies between passports and citizenship documents, or missing supporting evidence. Sometimes applicants don't realize a scanned document is unclear until it gets reviewed.
I would first try to find out the exact reason before preparing a new application. That may save you time and prevent the same issue from happening again.
I had a similar experience with my OCI application in New York last year. In my case, the rejection was due to a name mismatch between my naturalization certificate and my surrendered Indian passport. It was a very small difference, but it was enough to trigger additional scrutiny.
After contacting VFS, I learned the exact reason and was advised to submit supporting documents showing that both names referred to the same person. Since my application had already been rejected, I had to file a fresh OCI application.
The second application went through without issues once I included the additional documents. If you haven't already done so, I would recommend contacting VFS and asking for a more detailed explanation of the discrepancy.
OCI miscellaneous
I got new PPT & had to upload new details as OCI card remains same but new PPT (overseas) details needed to be notified.
I got Rejected - reason update full address
in this case do I put in a new application
as there is no guidance to update with same reference number or do I reprocess a new application. It’s not clear and unintentionally don’t want to do a wrong thing. Who to ask but here
guide me please
Start a new application for OCI - Change in personal particulars, and proceed to complete it
1. Reapply for OCI Renewal- Under the Change in Personal Particulars section
2. Fill the form on the OCI portal
3. Upload Required Documents
4. Mail the pacakge to VFS
Does anyone know how long it takes to reapply, as my original application was rejected due to missing documents?

I went through an OCI reapplication process in the UK after my original submission was rejected because of incomplete proof of Indian origin documentation.
The frustrating part was that I didn't initially receive a detailed explanation. After several emails, I was informed which document was considered insufficient. Once I understood the issue, gathering the correct paperwork was fairly straightforward.
If you're planning travel to India soon, you may also want to look into visa options while resolving the OCI matter. Processing times can vary significantly depending on the nature of the issue and whether additional verification is required.
Remember that every case is different, and the reason for rejection often determines how complicated the solution will be.
