I already have a valid physical OCI booklet that was issued a few years ago. After the recent launch of the e-OCI Card, I'm a bit confused about whether existing OCI holders need to do anything immediately.
I've seen announcements saying that new applicants now receive a digital e-OCI Card, but it's not clear what existing OCI cardholders should do. Do we need to migrate to e-OCI right away, or can we continue using our physical OCI booklet for travel to India?
I'm also wondering if I should download the e-OCI now or wait until my next trip. Has anyone already completed the process? Was it just a matter of logging into the OCI Services Portal, or did you have to update your email address or submit any documents first?
I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has already gone through this. Thanks!
I still have my physical OCI booklet and haven't had any problems using it. From what I've read, the booklet remains valid, so there isn't any urgent need to replace it. I still generated the e-OCI because it's convenient to keep a digital copy on my phone when I travel.
I downloaded my e-OCI Card last week. Since my email address was already linked to my OCI record, I simply logged into the OCI Services Portal, generated the e-OCI request, and downloaded it later the same day. I didn't have to upload any additional documents.

My OCI was issued several years ago, and there wasn't an email address linked to the record. I first had to update my registered email through the OCI portal before I could generate the e-OCI. Once the email update was completed, the download process was straightforward.
