OCI Card Not Printed After Approval – Anyone Else Waiting?

One thing that helped me was not treating the word “approved” as meaning that the physical card was already in the mail.

There can be a gap between the decision on the OCI application and the physical card being produced and delivered.

My card status stayed unchanged for a while and then several updates appeared close together. So I wouldn't necessarily worry if there isn't a new status every few days.

If you have travel planned, however, check what documents you actually have available. Don't assume that an approval status by itself is equivalent to having the physical OCI card.

The current OCI portal also has the newer e-OCI facility. Existing OCI holders can generate an e-OCI through the OCI Services Portal, although the government says the e-OCI is a digital representation and does not replace the physical OCI card.

For a newly approved applicant, I'd check whether the e-OCI facility is available for your particular record rather than assuming it will solve a pending physical-card delivery issue.

If the application appears stuck after grant, the safest route is to contact the relevant Indian Mission/Post or OCI helpdesk with your application number and acknowledgement details.

I had almost the opposite experience. Mine moved from approval to the next stage fairly quickly, and I received the card without a long wait.

However, I wouldn't use my timeline as a benchmark for everyone. OCI processing can involve different Indian Missions/Posts and circumstances.

One thing I would check is the exact wording of your status. “Granted” is different from wondering whether the physical card has actually been dispatched.

If it says the application has been granted but there is no printing information yet, that doesn't automatically mean the approval has been cancelled or that there's a problem with the documents.

If your application was submitted through VFS, I'd also check whether VFS has a separate courier/dispatch tracking update. Sometimes people look only at the OCI government status and miss the delivery update.

I'd keep screenshots of the current status and your acknowledgement. If it stays unchanged for an unusually long period, contact the relevant Mission/Post and ask specifically about the physical OCI card after grant, rather than submitting another application.

Requirements and processing arrangements can change, so I'd verify anything important directly with the Mission/Post.

I wouldn't assume that “Granted” means the card will necessarily be printed and dispatched the same day. There are still administrative/production and delivery steps after the decision.

I also noticed that the online status wasn't always updated as quickly as I expected. So I wouldn't rely entirely on the portal changing every day.

If your application has already been granted and there hasn't been a request for additional documents, I'd probably give it some time before assuming there is a problem.

That said, if you have urgent travel coming up, I'd contact the relevant Indian Mission/Post or the channel through which you submitted the application rather than relying on other people's timelines.

The official OCI portal also has a Track Application Status facility where you can check the current application status using the application ID and passport number.
