e-OCI Status Under Process for More Than 6 Weeks

One thing worth checking is whether your application was actually acknowledged and whether the acknowledgment date you're using is the correct one.

There can be several dates during the application process—online submission, document submission, VFS submission, acknowledgment and later processing stages. People sometimes calculate the waiting period from the wrong date.

For my application, the status remained unchanged for quite a while. I was initially worried that the photograph or signature had caused a problem, but no additional document request came.

If you submitted everything according to the checklist and haven't received a rejection or clarification request, there may not be anything you need to correct right now.

That said, six-plus weeks is enough time that I would at least review the current processing information for the Indian mission handling your application. If the application appears outside the applicable processing timeframe, you can contact the relevant official channel with your application/acknowledgment details.

Requirements and processing procedures can change, and applications are handled individually, so it's better to confirm with the official source rather than rely entirely on another applicant's timeline.

Six weeks seems long, but I wouldn't automatically assume there is a problem.

My experience was actually different. My OCI application was acknowledged and remained under process for about four weeks. Then it moved relatively quickly through the remaining stages.

A friend of mine applied around the same time and waited considerably longer. Both applications were submitted in the US, so there doesn't seem to be one fixed timeline that applies to everyone.

Also check that you are looking at the OCI application status, rather than only the VFS courier/tracking status. They represent different parts of the process.

I would also check your email and spam folder for any communication. If the authorities need clarification or additional documentation, the process can differ depending on the individual application.

If you're traveling soon, I wouldn't rely on the assumption that the OCI card will arrive by a particular date. Check the latest requirements for your travel situation directly with the relevant Indian mission or official OCI information.

I had something very similar happen with my OCI application in the US. Mine stayed at “Under Process” for around seven weeks before there was any visible movement.

I submitted my application in May and the acknowledgment came a few days later. After that, I basically kept checking the OCI status page without seeing any change.

In my case, there wasn't a document problem. The status eventually changed and the application moved forward without me submitting anything additional.

One thing I noticed is that the OCI tracking status doesn't necessarily change every time something happens internally. So I wouldn't assume that “Under Process” means the application hasn't been touched.

My application was also a little complicated because I had recently obtained US citizenship and was applying based on my previous Indian citizenship. I had submitted my Indian passport surrender certificate along with the other required documents.

I would keep checking both the OCI status and any communication from the consulate/VFS. If you have already crossed the normal processing period mentioned for your particular application route, you could contact the appropriate consulate or VFS channel.

Processing times can vary, though, so my timeline shouldn't be treated as an expected timeline for everyone.
