How to Check OCI Update Status?

When I applied for an OCI miscellaneous update in Australia, I checked both trackers.

VFS showed the movement of my application, while the government portal reflected the processing stage. I also received an email from VFS when my updated documents were ready for dispatch.

One suggestion is to keep your acknowledgment number handy because you'll need it whenever you check the official status. Requirements and processing times can change, so it's worth checking both portals periodically.

I had a similar experience in the UK.

The VFS tracker was useful for knowing when my documents were received and forwarded, but the actual processing updates came through the OCI status portal. For a while, it looked like nothing was happening, and then the status changed within a few days of completion.

If your application has only been in process for four weeks, it may still be within the normal processing range.

I updated my OCI after getting a new Canadian passport earlier this year.

Initially, I tracked the courier and VFS updates until the application reached the Consulate. After that, I mainly used the Government of India OCI status portal with my acknowledgment number and passport details. The status didn't change very often, but once the update was completed, it reflected there first.

My update took about six weeks from the acknowledgment date.

Here are two main things which you will need to track the OCI application status:

• Your application ID, which you will get at the time of application registration. 
• You will need your valid passport number to track the OCI application status.
