Has Anyone Used an e-OCI Card for Multiple Entries Yet?

I'm an Indian-origin Canadian citizen and recently downloaded my e-OCI card after updating my passport details through the OCI Services Portal. I'll be traveling to India next month and may need to make another trip just a few weeks later for work.

Since the e-OCI system is still relatively new, I'm wondering whether anyone has already used their e-OCI card for multiple entries into India. My understanding is that OCI allows multiple entries, but I'm specifically interested in hearing about experiences with the new e-OCI.

Did you have to download a fresh copy before each trip, or did you continue using the same e-OCI? Were there any issues with airline check-in or Indian immigration on your second visit?

For context:

  • Canadian passport renewed earlier this year.
  • Passport details updated through OCI Miscellaneous Services.
  • e-OCI downloaded successfully.
  • Physical OCI card is still with me.

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who's made more than one trip using the updated e-OCI. I know official guidance should always be followed, but it would be helpful to know what recent travelers have experienced.

I've completed multiple business trips from Singapore this year with the same e-OCI.

Before each departure, I just checked my OCI account to make sure everything still looked correct. I also verified that my passport hadn't changed and that the personal details matched exactly.

One thing I'd recommend is keeping both electronic and printed copies while traveling. Even though I wasn't asked for the printed version, it was reassuring to have it available if needed.

Requirements and document checks can change, so I still review the latest travel guidance before every trip.

My experience was pretty similar, although I traveled from the UK.

I entered India twice this year using the same e-OCI that I had downloaded after updating my passport information. The document remained available in my OCI account, and I simply kept both a digital and printed copy.

The only extra question I got was from the airline during my first trip because they weren't very familiar with the updated e-OCI process. On the second trip, check-in was much quicker.

As long as your travel documents are current, I don't think you need to download a fresh copy before every journey unless you've made another update.

I made two trips from Toronto to Mumbai within about three months after downloading my e-OCI.

For both trips, I carried my new Canadian passport, physical OCI card, and a printed copy of the e-OCI. I used the same downloaded e-OCI for both journeys because none of my details had changed.

The airline checked my documents each time, and immigration processed my entry without any unusual questions. I didn't need to generate a new e-OCI before my second trip.

That was just my experience, though. If your passport or personal details change again, it's worth checking whether another update is required.
