Since my husband is an American citizen who only qualifies for the OCI card through me, he has to wait till I get my OCI card. My child could also apply for the card alongside me, but would have to use my parents/grandparents as his 'Root Indian.' The situation will be too complicated in different ways. So, I decided that for now, first, I will apply for the card, and then the whole family together will use my card as 'Root Indian' for their OCI application.
I recently became a US citizen and am applying for OCI for my family. My husband was born in the USA and has no connection with India. Can I apply for his OCI because he is married to me?
Yes, you can submit your OCI application form for all members together. If you have not yet renounced your Indian citizenship or passport, you can submit the OCI and renunciation application together.
OCI card is for people of Indian origin. Suppose your wife was born in the US, and her parents or grandparents were never citizens of India. In that case, she is not eligible for an OCI card. However, if she is married to you and your marriage has completed three years, then she can apply for the card through you and enjoy the perks of OCI status. Additionally, your children will also be eligible to apply for the card.

Hi, I have also applied for the OCI card for me, my wife, and my daughter together after getting US citizenship. I did not face any issues during the application process, as before applying for the OCI card, I went through all the guidelines and gathered the required documents for the process.
